the ludological reason behind saying "videogame" instead of "video game" is that computer-aided games are a fundamentally different medium from other forms of game (e.g. sports or board games), and thus the word should be its own thing instead of a modifier of the word "game." i would argue however that the exact same thing can be said of tabletop games, whose core mechanics are fundamentally different from those of board games (or "boardgames," i suppose)
