Another natural habitat for slide projectors are art schools with a strong analogue photography department and a smidge of pretension, like the one i studied at. Especially medium format 6×6cm slides, if done right, are magnificent - the sharpness, the color, the grain, the lack of flicker or dlp-smears - unmatched!
So, you could rent this projector from the school. My friend did, for his show, and had it stolen. No insurance. Replaced it himself with much time and more cash spent on eBay. A couple of weeks later, the cops find the stolen projector, with tags/stickers intact (!), and return it. Now we had... two of them!
