A lot of people boldly insist that AI generative work doesn't infringe on copyright because it's "fair use." The reality is a bit more complicated. Great video from LegalEagle below.
I think generative AI has the potential to become a really useful tool for artists, musicians, and all kinds of disciplines. But it needs to get to a point where it isn't ripping off countless people's hard work without compensation. I think it will get there, eventually, but it's not there now.
(I am not telling you to not use generative AI, or to use it. Do what you want. I'm passing time right now while chronically ill making original music using OpenAI Jukebox, and illustrating it with AI images. I'm not interested in scolding people. I find the legal details interesting.)
