I've been reading "The Martian" and to be honest I think it's just OK
The prose is mediocre, a lot of the humor doesn't land for me, and it's pretty repetitive
The science stuff seems well-researched though

I thought the movie was pretty boring, I never bothered to read the book. I can't say I'm surprised.
I feel like "hard science fiction" is meant to appeal to one particular Type Of Guy.
I think they appeal to a similar type of guy, but the quality is vastly different. Not because the Martian is Great Literature, but RPO is just that bad
