Who else on here a """rationalism""" / """effective altruism"""" hater?

I dated a rationalist when I was in college (I would not recommend dating a rationalist)

I didn't initially know anything about the community, but she pretty much immediately invited me to rationalist events. Fortunately I always thought it seemed off and never got into it, which in hindsight is definitely good

Also you may not be surprised to hear that she was part of a massive polycule (seems pretty standard for rationalists for whatever reason)

I hate them so much. religion for people with too much money and like to think they're smart

effective altruisim is like carbon offsets for the rationalist's soul.. indulgences so the roko's basilisk computer doesn't put you in logic hell

Recycled theology in the cloak of ethics - for people who flunked ethics twice and have trouble inferring context on the side of a cereal box.

I can go on. I lived in the Bay Area long enough to develop a truly rich contempt for these people.

Oh yes. Tried it a decade ago, mostly because at the time it was the only thing resembling a community of autistic polyam folks (I suspect we weren't the only one who did it for that reason). Also at the time many of our friends were in it or adjacent to it.

However, it is obvious it's just, for lack of a better word, a cult of cryptofascist neo-yuppie tech bros cloaked behind a veneer of science with a collective savior complex.

It has the same memetic flavor as the unexamined racism within the software dev community, only amplified.
