Time Extend is a racing game podcast with an excellent, vibrant little community. It's run by Adam Ismail of Jalopnik, and Brendan Rorrison of, uh Scotland. They found me after I released Real Racing Roots 2019, my love letter album to R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 back in 2018, and we've been good friends ever since.
This last week I guested on the show again along with John Linneman from Digital Foundry to give an overview on different options for playing games from the various hardware platforms from around the PS1/PS2 era. Our goal wasn't to outline the "best of the best" methods for sickos like me that are all the way down the rabbit hole, those people already know what they're looking for. Instead, we were much more interested in just trying to give a high level rundown of different options and their use cases, pros and cons, all that fun stuff. Really we just wanted to be able to help folks figure out what would be most useful for them. We covered everything from real hardware solutions on CRTs or modern displays, the expansive possibilities of software emulation, and touched briefly on the surround sound components of these platforms.
Full disclosure, because John is in Germany, Adam is in New York, and I'm in Seattle, we recorded from 2AM to 4:30AM my time, so I sound completely out of it for a good chunk of the episode. I'm so sorry, I promise I'm not always stuck in a buffering stage like that! 😅
Anyway! If that sounds at all of interest to you
