A perhaps interesting direction would be to add some details, but keep them all in their respective room's color. Should keep things quite legible.
That's a good idea that hadn't occurred to me. Each color could have a couple tints, too, to create a bit more depth in the space. I'd been sketching out the room details in b/w (seen in the following post), but the way elements overlap was making the foreground/background details hard to distinguish.
The other thought I had was to use this colored outline as a diagrammatic key next to the text. Maybe all the more reason to do that if everything in the room maintains a consistent color palette.
