I restored this radio a few years ago. It's from 1946. Runs on vacuum tubes of course. It's AM, but also shortwave, because shortwave is AM just on a different band. Where I am the normal AM radio band gets you sports news, local news, some kind of comedy station that plays old stand-up, and a couple of oldies music stations. Shortwave gets stuff from all over the place. Tonight I was listening to some crazy preacher complaining about something.

Something about hearing all the radio distortions, and the massively out of place angry preacher speak, makes us feel like we've been transported to an alternate past timeline. Makes our skin crawl.
That's a beautiful radio! I sometimes use an sdr to do low power transmission of modern audio media, so I can listen to something better on older, pretty tech.
