In Japanese at least it's, like, probably on par with English prose. It's obviously got all the same quirks and flaws, but it can be kind of fun to "talk" with it. BUT, the problem comes from making your game about talking with ChatGPT by embedding your paid-for token in the game files where anyone can steal it and then use it to, idk, write a whole novel or something, and then you're on the hook for paying for all those words 💀

Yeah, I’m mostly thinking about how everything I’ve read from it longform reads like a concussed freshman wrote it the day before the assignment was due.

But that is unrelated to just the worst possible security practices with your token.

can't help but feeling a pang of sorrow atop my schadenfreude. games and AI could be really cool if it didn't come with this like, putrescent film of weird misplaced pride in the decimation of effort. feels like people at large are starting to lose sight of what makes art worth learning how to do and why art isn't just Content to be Consumed

Yeah, once upon a time I was actually really looking forward to AI doing cool things with games 😔 I still kind of hope that things turn around because there is so much potential (and I HAVE played a couple of really cool games that use LLM in interesting ways). But much like how mobile games are now and forever associated with gacha garbage, I dunno if the AI genre(?) can ever fully recover.

the people at Latitude (AI Dungeon folks) were doing something called Voyage but they've unfortunately shelved it for now, it's still really promising as an idea - basically they provide the AI and API and people build interactive webapps atop it
