Americans, tragically, don't have demoscene and that's why they have to make so many youtube videos
as much as I'd love to see this change, the whole culture of "sixteen hackers on the same train from dusseldorf, or the netherlands, or paris, or sweden, to somewhere in germany" (it's always germany) just can't exist in america
not because we don't have germany, but because we don't have trains. we'll probably have germany before trains
the closest to this was the uneasy fidgeting on a las vegas bound flight right before defcon a decade+ ago as everyone had to keep reminding themselves of the risks of hacking a plane in flight
suffice it for me to say a lot of the defcon crowd are security dweebs, and I don't come at that determination lightly
you're far (far) more likely to have your car stolen six times in a row by some loser rigging the headlights with a CAN injector, than someone crashing your plane by plugging an Oops Device into the weird plug under the seat, without getting noticed.
like, there's "security theater", the whole LARP of Good Guys Versus Bad Guys White Hat Black Hat Evil Eye Cyber Hail Satan 666 1337 shit you see on TV and in the minds of DEF CON ticket-buyers; and then there's security. Planes are secure, they're not playing secure.
Oh man, I wish I could elevate this comment more than just saying
! My first and only demoscene party was in 2010, and it was, you guessed it, in a gym hall somewhere in the east of Germany!
