@ticky

you're telling me that napoleon bonaparte founded a water company that eventually owned crash bandicoot and nobody told me before

EDIT: okay so I misunderstood and it’s Napoleon III, not “the” Napoleon Bonaparte but still

Not just Crash, but literally the whole of Activision, and Blizzard before it.

It's a weirdly little known fact, probably because it seems counter to how it's played out over the years, Vivendi were the majority stakeholder in what became Activision Blizzard. Apparently Vivendi execs were tired of running a games company, so as part of the merger deal they handed over leadership to the incoming Activision execs, who took complete control of the company over the next several years until the finally bought it off Vivendi outright.

Vivendi also pulled a hostile takeover of Gameloft, and attempted one of Ubisoft, and currently own 80% of Dailymotion for some reason.

Megacorps are wild fucking shit.

Okay, and apparently this company bought Crash Bandicoot (and the rest of Universal Studios) from Seagram, the ginger ale company. This has got to be the largest media franchise transfer between two nominally-beverage-producing companies, right? (Vivendi had unfortunately spun off their water division as “Vivendi Environnement” the year before, reducing their claim to actually being a beverage company, but they still had a controlling stake in that company at the time)
