It's easy to see this opening version of PSO as basic and nothing more - fewer classes, fewer areas, all sorts of simple QoL features missing - but on a revisit those rough edges felt more like a bit of character and interest than irritating. I don't necessarily miss everything they smoothed away in later Episodes, but it's clear this original is chasing a very particular idea of multiplayer gaming rather than fumbling around in the dark and hoping it finds something that works along the way.
