below the readmore because my idea of what makes dry bureaucratic documents interesting is... individual

It's very rare for a book to be recalled, but this series featured electrical wiring diagrams that, if followed, set your house on fire: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2011/Home-Improvement-Books-Recalled-by-Oxmoor-House-Due-to-Faulty-Wiring-Instructions-Shock-and-Fire-Hazards-to-Consumers
This very amateur vegan baby formula where the recall justification is basically just "NO." https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/moor-herbs-recalls-angel-formula-infant-formula-because-possible-health-risk
Gas station dick pills are constantly getting recalled because they turn out to contain actual medications for erectile dysfunction. It's a whole thing. Like, I get the justification that these are bad for people with heart conditions, but it still feels a bit odd to withdraw a supplement because it actually worked. https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/abc-sales-1-inc-issues-voluntary-nationwide-recall-mac-daddy-red-and-mac-daddy-purple-capsules-due
This one isn't a recall per se, but it's a weird story. An aromatherapy spray from India was contaminated with Burkholderia pseudomallei, which is a bacterium so virulent that infection is up to 50% fatal even with treatment. A family's pet raccoon got into the aromatherapy spray and died. When one of the human family members also became sick, the CDC found out about this and came in and not only dug up the raccoon carcass, but had to dig out and bleach all the dirt around the grave. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7150a5.htm

There are a lot of recalls for undeclared allergens, and I understand why you don't want to make an "unless it's obvious" exception, but it still seems like a real bummer to have to do a recall because you didn't specify that your peanut butter chocolate contains peanuts: https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/corim-industries-issues-allergy-alert-undeclared-peanuts-peanut-butter-hot-chocolate
Again, I know rules are rules, but it's a bit cruel to ban arthritis medication from being sold in easy-open bottles. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2022/Aurohealth-Recalls-Kroger-Brand-Acetaminophen-Due-to-Failure-to-Meet-Child-Resistant-Packaging-Requirement-%20Risk-of-Poisoning
This portable generator has amputated 24 people's fingers and crushed 5 more. That is a lot of fingers. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2023/CPSC-Reannounces-Recall-of-Generac-Portable-Generators-Additional-Finger-Amputation-and-Crushing-Injury-Reported-New-Repair-Kit-Available
Finally, here's a fun kids' toy consisting of a little "spider egg," which, when soaked in water, expands into a much larger spider. Reason for recall: it can also do this inside your body. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2013/Be-Amazing-Toys-Recalls-Monster-Science-Growing-Spiders
