This is as good as any time I guess to make my goodbye pinned post.

It's been a pleasure marred by pain, but this is still the best social media experience I've had in years, and I'll miss it.

Eggbug lives!

In a fit of pique, I made a forum for ex-chosties.

We're hosted on Tapatalk, as it worked out to be cheaper than any alternate self-hosting solution, and I was encouraged by the news that they have recently bought themselves back from their VC investors to make themselves properly independent again.

In the future, we'll be at https://afterchost.org, but unfortunately good old DNS kinda fucked me on that one, so while I have the domain, I couldn't get it connected in time for this and felt it was better to give folks a chance to register while I still had time to announce it.

I hope you'll join us, and help carry some of this site's spirit on into the future, or at least that we can make a fun little corner of the internet for those of us not quite ready to let go of what we have, even if it's not quite the same.

I will also add: this is a lot more rag-tag operation than even cohost was; I am one unemployed disabled queer doing her best. I'm happy to take suggestions, and I'll do my best to make a safe place for folks to chill, but that's all I can promise.

cohost was built off of the lessons learned from a life spent on social media, looking at the mistakes others had made, looking at what they did right, and trying to build a platform that combined the best and accounted for the worst.

i hope that at some point in the future someone will look at the mistakes we made and the things we got right and do the same to us.

Cohost in the end feels like it was an experiment in what a better web could be, and I think it succeeded in spades, even if the site itself can't go on as it has.

I don't think there's going to be a "new Cohost", but something I saw that I loved was RuSSHdown's tagline of "Eggbug Memorial RSS Feed Project".

I like the idea of, going forward, Cohost being a kind of movement more than a single site. A pledge to a certain kind of experience and attitude that remembers what made the place different and great. That's why I put the "I was on Cohost" eggbug on my new blog: I want people to know that's the kind of web I want to see in the world, and keep on creating there.

A lot of people seemed to want this site to fail, but it won't have, as long as we all take what we learned and spread it far and wide.
