in 2017, i had a music project that never got finished, where i was going to do sort of maximalist instrumental pop-punk that didn't really try to hide that i'm more of a prog metal guitarist. here's a silly little bass-less, guitar-solo-less demo of what that was going to sound like! it was going to be released anonymously as "gurren", a red dragon oc who still lives in my heart today.
by that point, i had already been aware i was transfem for a few years, but i was feeling like the boys i knew needed some positivity. gurren was meant to represent a cool direction i thought masculinity could go in a better, patriarchy-less world. confidence and competition, with respect for others. the type of outgoing swagger that can build yourself and others up. bisexuality. all that good stuff
anyway, the project ended up leaning too hard on my partner and didn't get finished, because i refuse to learn how to make anything sound good, i just play the instrument, and it wasn't a fair amount of labor to ask of them at the time. but after hoptix it's not hard to imagine coming back to this!
