Yesterday, I revisited the abandoned asylum and the surrounding park-forest. There are a lot of rhododendron bushes all over that park, many of them quite old and large. Like I already said last time I was there, the vibes of that place are impeccable and it is absolutely beautiful. I took a lot of photos again.

a lot of dark pink rhododendron flowers and white ones next to each other. the following pics are all gonna be rhododendron so I'm not gonna repeat the word over and over.

a very big bush with light lavender coloured flowers next to a white and a dark pink one, in a scenery with some trees, sunlit

close up of light purple-pink flowers with dark red leopard like spots

close up of white flowers with dark red spots

close up of orange flowers, two of them open, the rest still closed, with red stripes on the flower buds

scenery of the edge of a pond with the water surface covered in duckweeds and white flowers that have fallen from a bush hanging over the water's edge, the background is a small forest of tall deciduous trees with a lush carpet of herbs growing underneath.

close up of a cream coloured gilled mushroom among fallen leaves on the park/forest floor

view upwards into the treetops of some beech trees. one has reddish leaves and the other has light green leaves and the are mixing in the middle.

close up of a leaf of musk strawberry, on it are a tiny brown ant and a type of soldier beetle, Cantharis thoracica, which is a slender black and reddish beetle much larger than the ant

a small bridge over a little bit of water in the park-forest. it is overgrown with lush plants and there are lots of trees all around.

a double entrance door of an abandoned building. it is sand green and lightly ornamented, with glass windows in both doors that are partly broken. the wall is part exposed brick and partly covered in flaky cream paint. the door handle is missing. it looks like it has been abandoned for a couple decades.

After the visit, we had an additional stop at a local cultural site. This area, former GDR territory, had once been torn apart by uranium mining, which had a pretty terrible impact on nature and the health of the local people. There have since been a lot of restoration efforts for the landscape.

An interesting monument to that history is this giant artwork that used to be a mural on one of the mining facilities. It is now being displayed free-standing among the fields. It is titled "The peaceful utilisation of nuclear power" and the artist is Werner Petzold, who died last year. It is about 16 m or 50 ft tall, and overall quite impressive.

a photo of the giant mural artwork. it is enamel painted on steel plates, in the style of socialist realism. it shows an idealized depiction of soviet workers in the nuclear industry. the composition is pyramid-like, with 8 figures in the bottom tier, 5 figures and a baby in the middle tier and 3 figures in the top tier. they are grouped around a central focal point that is a stylized giant atom. the atom and the figures are in warm colours, the machinery and technology around them is angular and mostly cold colours.
