hey y'all. i've been deep in the middle of moving across the country to Portland and then going to a convention with friends also here in PDX and have scarcely had time to think, so the news about the site fading away is quite an intense blindside shot... in lieu of making a longer and more thoughtful post about that specifically (which i will no doubt do later), allow me to offer one little silver lining: the sixth and final iteration of COMPOST, cohost's casual one-or-two-hour music making compo, will be this weekend, Saturday/Sunday 9/14-15. there'll be a prompt, you make a tune in a couple hours at some point within a 24hr 48hr window (let's go big on the last one!!), and share it here with the tag COMPOST #6. we can all listen to and comment on each others' tunes! and i am totally down if you are a visual artist or writer or whatever and wanna make something else using that prompt. please do.

i'm gonna be honest, running this event has been my single favorite thing about this social media site - and that's on top of it already being the only social media i've loved in well over a decade. i'm gutted it has to grind to a halt; i would've run them so much more often if i'd known this was so imminent! each time, folks have made some of the most wild and diverse and creative stuff, and it's so so warm and humbling that it became such a site-wide event and i met so many great people and heard their work this way. (it started as literally an idea i had in a dream!) i love you all! you are amazing! nearly 200 songs were made total among the first five iterations!!! you can check their respective tags to listen to them if you never have. shit, maybe i or someone else should save all of the ones that are still up. :S

let's make the final COMPOST the biggest send-off we can :') <3

in reply to @hvb's post:

i'd only want to put up the ones that people would give direct permission/consent for re-sharing in that way - and asking everyone will take some organization time that i probably can't spare for the next couple weeks - but i love this idea yeah. we should. <3
