Literally just unlocked Gunbreaker now that I'm done with Samurai. Have not done a single duty yet. I already had the Shire gear, so I just equipped it, played with my training dummy to get an idea of the flow, and finished the first story quest.

I had a moment where I was honestly confused how Gnashing Fang and Burst Strike were different, but a look at the unassignable skills cleared that up.

Hoping I like it!

I tried out a little gunbreaker (i picked up the job stone ages ago, but now I'm trying to actively level a Tank). I found what we have to begin with is a good flow. I haven't gone much farther than that, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you enjoy it. Good luck!

Gunbreaker to me was a tank that felt like a DPS — a friend of mine who enjoys it even calls it “three DPS in a trench coat.” It doesn’t fully come into its own until you get Continuation, which is level 70. Compared to Warrior and Dark Knight (the other tanks I’m familiar with), its offensive suite has more emphasis on cooldown management and proper sequencing of abilities. Defensively, it has good survivability — not quite Warrior levels, but solid — and excellent party support. Because of its greater emphasis on single target damage than AoE and its party support, it feels particularly suited to boss fights as opposed to dungeon mob pulls.

Generally, whether you like Gunbreaker will depend on whether you prefer jobs based around resource management (like Warrior, Reaper, or Red Mage), or jobs based around timers (like Dragoon or Bard). It felt more like the latter category to me. I hope you enjoy it!
