This is it! The final job!

Unsurprisingly, it took longer to get acquainted with the abilities at level 70 than it did with Gunbreaker at 60. But already, after doing Samurai and Gunbreaker, both with skill animations lacking any interest or flair, this is a visual relief and then some.

Reaper has an interesting take on positionals that seems much more tolerable though easy to forget in the heat of battle since it's actually outside of the rotation entirely. What a twist!

We come with an important update
In the midst of writing this, Orbonne Monastery popped, and it turned out remembering the positionals was super easy. I'm excited to see what new abilities I get as I level.

Halfway there, Folks!

Enshroud is a cool-looking ability for sure, and I'm looking forward to maybe using it on the way to 90. (Cue every sub-50 or level 50 duty for the next week to spite me.)

It is definitely a fun job so far if a bit simple. Between 50 and 70, there are only four abilities, so the variety in different duties in that range is sparse. I can't complain too much, though. Honestly, my biggest issue so far is that taking a good pic of my WoL doing an avatar ability is rather challenging; he's mostly obscured, and the camera can't target the avatar.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to bringing this home and finally being done…until next Summer. 🥴

Yeah I’ve been enjoying Reaper a lot. And I just put True North on my hotbar next to my positionals so I don’t have to care about being in position a good fraction of the time. Another benefit of not having them part of the regular rotation!

Hee heee. :D I told you. ;) Shroud is awesome, really escalates the class to peak "flip out and kill people" mode. It is so satisfying for me every time, like a little mini limit break you get to do like every few minutes.

I can do that one up: I didn't know until I was like, almost 90, that you can get a second round of Fire IVs by slipping in a Fire 1 after you use up your first set of Umbral Hearts. So when I got Paradox I was like "well this is cool, but where the hell is it supposed to go in my rotation and why does it replace Fire/Blizzard?"

Yeah, Reaper is generally a simple job, and that’s one reason I like it. But most of the complexity it does have comes in a rush between 80 and 90 inclusive. At 90 for me, the work of playing the job comes from resource management — getting all the gauge resources I can, but also spending them quickly enough so I don’t overcap — and sometimes having to be careful about when to Enshroud. (Compared to level 80, at level 90 your Enshroud window will have two extra OGCD weaves and finish with a 1.5s cast rather than an instant weaponskill. Between the busier button pressing and having to hold still for that cast, I have a tendency to get hit if I Enshroud while I’m dodging mechanics.)

At least Communio is ranged. Sometimes if things are really sticky I will do the melee part of my Enshroud, then portal to safety for the finish. Reaper’s basic ranged attack isn’t great, but it has surprising number of big, infrequent ranged AoEs: Gluttony, Harvest Moon, and Communio.
