your cat is adorable! also! how did you enjoy returnal?? i devoured that game last year/earlier this year and it’s easily in my top three games ever now lmao it was such a special experience

Thank you! Please check out my other baby in my first post!

I love Returnal. I got it on a whim after I saw it came out for PC (we have a PS5, but I don't use it), and I was not prepared for how absorbed I'd get. I love the story, and it's probably my favorite shooter ever. I only very recently got all the achievements for it. I definitely intend on writing a bit more deeply about it soon/at some point.

It's been a long time since I've written an introductory post anywhere, but I'm excited at the prospect.

Hi, I'm Gil! I'm a 40 year-old married gay man with two adorable kitties, Kirby and Butter. I am cisgender, but you may use whatever pronouns you want. I don't consider them essential to my gender identity.

Butter. A brown tabby cat in loaf form at the top platform of a cat tree. Folds of his generousness ooze off the side of the platform. He has a somewhat alert expression and is facing the left of the viewer.

My primary interest and hobby is playing video games. I play critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV daily, and I usually have one or two other games I play when I finish my dailies. Currently, that is Outer Wilds, which is so far absolutely fascinating. I recently got my "platinum"/100% in Returnal. It was an incredible game and is probably my favorite shooter. I am, however, looking forward to not running it relentlessly anymore to try and get all the achievements.

Screenshot from Final Fantasy XIV of my Warrior of Light posing by standing on one leg with the other kicked behind him and arching his back, two giant black outlined fans in his hands and surrounded by blue and violet swirling magical energies.

Besides video games, I love cats, food, anime, and other stuff that may become apparent over time. I'm happy to learn about other people's interests and really enjoy listening to them speak passionately about them.

I've had the mind to check out cohost for a while now. I first heard of it as folks were desperately seeking alternatives to a Musk-run Twitter. However, although it is possible I may migrate here, I am not seeking Twitter 2.0, and I've written multiple threads about why it's impossible to seek what I had there somewhere else. Ultimately, what attracted me to cohost was the ability to do formatting. No joke! I also like that I can do long posts, such as this one, without having to write a 🧵 thread of posts. (Pet peeve: people who write "1/" and so on in their threads. One out of what? There's a reason you wrote a slash!)

Kirby. An orange tabby cat with its belly exposed towards the camera and rubbing its fore legs over its ears with a scrunched expression on is face.

I also get the feeling that microblogging has rotted my attention span. I remember over a decade ago, I used to read a lot of articles (mostly about games), and I've since gotten into a habit of bookmarking anything that'll take longer than a minute to read and forgetting about it forever. Recently, I've started going through those bookmarks, but I shouldn't be in this position. Admittedly, over a decade ago, I had the kind of job where I could browse the internet often, but I still should make time to read about interesting topics.

So far, cohost seems cute. I browsed a bunch while I was in
Posting Purgatory
, and the vibe seems more positive. A lot of shitposting and less people dunking on others to score credibility points. I also think there's less of the vibe that people are only following each other in the hopes of nudes. Though I am surprised by how much people post about cohost.

Anyway, thank for coming by. I hope you enjoy my coposts.
