Most pinball machines didn't have drop targets until 1970 (there are isolated earlier examples) but by 1971 everyone is wild about them. Even Gottlieb's long-running Verb-A-Card series is now on "Drop-A-Card". The confusingly named "2001" is almost entirely made of drop targets.
