Everything got better when I became a green-haired 2D girl. I do fun and unusual things with video games and pinball.

cohost inspired me to do more. Thank you

so I know that Discord is the only place I can be meaningfully DMed at the moment, and there are things that people would want to DM me about

but if you send me a new message request that is just the word "Hey", of course I'm going to decline.

I hope this is clear enough to anyone who actually wants to talk to me and not just sell me something, but I'm worried that I'm shutting out the occasional person who is just awkward at messaging

in reply to @arborelia's post:

For real. I get this kind of thing a lot at work... If it's important enough to contact me, why not say what I'm being contacted for?

tbqh the only reason for "hey" as an opening message would be if it's immediately followed by "let 'em do it again, yeah"

it's like stop wasting both our time by starting us out with a pointless round of greetings. just say what you want to talk about.

a related phenomenon is people who aren't quite that bad, but still type

"hi"

and press enter as a preface to the actual message they are now typing and you get to wait for them to finish typing now that they have your attention on the DM screen

I get like 1-2 of these a day on Discord, always from accounts whose list of shared servers is just one large server I've never sent a single message in, so my default assumption is that they're phished accounts trawling down lists of server members to try and do the same to me x_x

but in general this is a pet peeve of mine as well

I've been getting this a lot on Twitch funny enough. Though it's mostly "Hey there" and nothing else. SO I block and assume bot.
Nettiquette back in my day rocks in chair you'd at least go "Hey! Saw your guide, watched your stream, was told by SomeoneUKno" SOMETHING to indicate where you were coming from.
