Everything got better when I became a green-haired 2D girl. I do fun and unusual things with video games and pinball.

cohost inspired me to do more. Thank you

A few swords showed up last night!

I got far too salty last night when playing the Super Metroid part of the randomizer, particularly when I died to Phantoon and had to get back there (with no grapple beam) by repeating some of the worst movement tech in SNES gaming. I play glitched ALttP and I'm still saying that. Normal movement in Super Metroid (particularly the randomizer) has worse controls than setting up glitches in ALttP.

Afterward, I wondered aloud to Kat -- what is it about the Super Metroid randomizer that I enjoy? What keeps me coming back? Because it isn't the part where I have to accomplish things in Super Metroid.

But: I found my varia suit on the way across the moat. Which means there's a lot more Super Metroid to do, and it's even mostly things that you do when casually playing the game.

I'm starting up again soon on https://twitch.tv/arborelia, and here's my status:

  • Adventure is no longer a defenseless rectangle. It's a rectangle with a sword that could slay dragons, maybe.
  • Celeste 64 is still missing some game mechanisms. There's one strawberry that I could get to but I don't know where it is.
  • GeoGuessr gave me a difficult map to play called Unexplored World, and also expects me to get better at Spain.
  • Legend of Zelda has a sword! It's wooden and it sucks! There are item checks I could do by going deeper into dungeons and defeating rooms full of Darknuts, and it's very merciful that the randomizer logic doesn't actually expect me to do that with a wood sword.
  • Link to the Past still has no sword and that's causing problems. I could start on the chain of hints I have (in the lower left of the image) by using Bombos to get into Ice Palace, except you have to be able to swing a sword to use Bombos.
  • Link's Awakening made a lot of progress last night, including finding my own feather in a very inconvenient place, which led to finding my own sword. I could make more progress by getting less lost on Tal Tal Mountain.
  • In A Short Hike, I got to the mountain peak and achieved the first ending of the game, but I need more feathers for my goal, getting the fox friend to the peak as well.
  • Super Mario 64 wants me to get some 100-coin stars, or go to the "downtown" area of Wet-Dry World.
  • Super Mario World is completely blocked until I can get Carry to open secret exits, and Carry comes from the chain of logic that's blocked by a fire rod or a sword in LttP.
  • Super Metroid I described already. Crocomire is waiting for me.
  • In Tunic, I've seen a chest on a ledge in the Atoll that I can supposedly open without any more stuff, but I forget how. Laurels would make it easy.
  • The Witness got some new puzzle mechanisms unlocked last night, and there are still a few scattered puzzles to solve with them.
