Oh great, now there's more of them!

Just another lurker, this time a 30-something wolf-adjacent critter from the UK, who dabbles in microfiction and tabletop game design. Slightly less restrained here. Maybe.

I realised this mech lacked an official associated pilot design, so I have rectified this situation.

Say hello to callsign "Polaris", realname currently unrecorded. A batchmate of one Lyra "Sledge" Kennedy, and third-generation Black Talon. 6'10", if you're wondering.

Ed: Little update to fix up some of the markings

Another little spritebash project made using GIMP and Retrograde, this time the (terribly imaginatively named) Northstar1! An IPS-N Nelson (2.0) based brawler, the Northstar backs up its close range weaponry with a spread of light drones taken from the Retrograde-special/legendary Zahhak drone platform (though I had to chop up and shuffle around the drone groups a bit to better fit the differing silhouette).

Intake cowlings were done by exporting the torso layer twice in the base/desired colour scheme, layering the 'accent' colour on top, then cutting away unwanted pixels. I also did some touchups on the base chassis details as they're meant for the standard Nelson 2.0 frame rather than the Flight Type frame. I also had to do a fair bit of relayering to get the depth of all the parts right - this is one of the biggest weaknesses of the standard png export function in Retrograde right now, especially when working with frames that have lots of optional/addon/detail parts.

I also ended up using the eye from the Nelson 2.0 to spice up the Swordbreaker's eye a little after posting that.

  1. Is it because it punches things a lot, or because it's an IPS-N unit? You decide.

Crunchy build specifics under the cut:

Made a colour variant whilst tooling around with rehashing an NPC from another campaign as a mech pilot. Different drone spread due to how I splice the sprites together, but same core design really.

I think the splashes of colour on the wingtips help 'em stand out a bit.

Decided to dust off this old variant and give it a little bit of a revamp, with Hive drones in place of Zahhak drones, and more charge/boost states. I didn't do wings-down like the Northstar, nor the eye-glow, mostly just to set it apart a little more.

Yes, I like to change my token states to reflect certain events. I'm that kind of GM/player. :3

Painted up a little GMS SP-1 based unit the other day, because I wanted to see how the Scout chassis would look on Quad Legs. Then I strapped a pair of Autocannons and a Howitzer onto it.

Gunsmoke is once again the Empakaai steam effect.

I was scrolling back through my timeline and saw the Friend-Shaped Fire Support Object, so I figured I'd quickly go back and strip out the colour finish I added (and the cannon) in case anyone wanted to do their own paintjob on top of it.

Also included is a version with rotary cannons that I didn't paint up fully.

I also have an NPC template called the Skyguard around here somewhere, which is sort of like an anti-Ace that has bonus accuracy against flying/hovering characters, can force flying characters to ground with its attacks if they fail saves, and also defends nearby allies by shooting down incoming attacks as a reaction -- it's like a li'l CIWS turret on leggies. Fragile if you attack it directly, but annoying if you ignore it. Haven't made a Comp/Con lcp for it though.

New post because the string was getting a bit long and obtuse, and as neat as it is to see the evolution I don't wanna clog up feeds/dashboards. If you want to see the earlier iterations, they're here!

Slowly but surely refining the look of this beast. I think I might actually be finished now. I swapped the red variant over to a gold trim because hey why not, and also made AR variants of both because I just dig the AR's design.

No other significant changes in this revision, at least that I can recall.

Ed: reup'd images to fix the pauldron size on all variants.

Ed2: Removed the R+G AR variant to make space for the 'hacking active' B+S core style.

Some adjustments, to reflect shifting priorities and loadout modifications. Added some drone packs for harassment (ranged DPS was never really a priority) and swapped the heavy mount to a Big Melee for more damage after I've gotten the setup grab off.

Other party members are breaking out paracausal woo-woo bullshit, meanwhile Lyra's over here like "I'm going to kick your shit in with the power of friendship (and this giant hammer I found)."
