gasping for the devil, the sea

Man, people in fantasy novels sure do love approaching the copse

I have a really complicated relationship with fantasy novels, because I LOVE it when people are making pacts with gods to do an impossible quest for the sake of love, but I HATE it when people are approaching the copse that lies directly to the north of the sunlit mountain, the early morning dawn casting long shadows over the adventurer's light footsteps as they marched onwards to certain battle

If you're approaching a copse, fuck you. If you've noticed literally any detail about an altar in a shrine, fuck you TWICE. And I swear, if you're looking at a mirror, the next works BETTER be saying how hot the ghost appearing in place of your image is, or you're wasting my time

If I was in an isekai the first thing I'd do is determine if I was in a novel, IRL, or a game. Hopefully one of the big tells would show up quickly: if you ever find yourself approaching a copse, then it's definitely a novel. Or if you ever need a sluice key, it's a videogame.

The part about the mirror remind me of that time I saw two me in a mirror. I had a necklace and a v-cut teesh and for an instant in that reflection there was who I was and who I am. Like one shining through the other.
