I dunno. People talking and writing about how people mistreat eachother seems rational and responsible to me... people shouldn't need to be constantly justifying their thoughts or what keeps them happy and entertained.
I think the onus should always fall on the groups that are making a metric fuckton of money off of a cultural phenomenon.

Maybe so, but I think vigilance in that area is still energy better spent being critical of the big players looking to fuck everyone over for profit. It's more actionable, too. One obscure reactionary editorial (who would fabricate ANY reason to feign injury, as a bigot) getting deplatformed is nice, but challenging and undermining a huge media group that influences culture in a real and tangible way seems more useful (especially if you're in a position to undermine and circumnavigate its profit motives) and nips the problem at the bud. Also there is way less splash damage on the people enjoying things in the latter scenario, which is preferable to just exploding on people liking things, even just accidentally. HP is here to stay, it's a part of western culture in a not-insignificant capacity. People are writing queer fanfic and AUs, adapting the stories they grew up with to something more useful to them, in more meaningful ways than Rowling could ever hope to. I can't see any reason why dunking on anyone who likes HP indiscriminately is preferential to, say, putting effort in to loosen the grip of IP law (international and otherwise) so we can just make and enjoy the shit without paying up to Queen TERF. This is applicable to basically everything Nintendo and Disney touch, too. It's an important issue.

I actually don't have a horse in this particular race. I had one harry potter birthday as a kid, watched the movies, and moved on to do other things that made me happier. It's very weird that already people are coming in swinging like I'm some ardent defender of this IP that I otherwise don't pay any attention to. I just want people to be good to each other and to not feel ashamed or threatened for looking at or thinking about things. I don't think that's asking a whole lot. That's why I leave long-winded comments on people's poasts. u0u
