What if dragons don't hoard? What if they don't go out of their way to collect gems and gold and treasure?
"Oh it's so lovely dear one!" You say. Gazing down at the diminutive scaled creature before you, an expression of pride and glee on it's snout at your words. The gem it holds aloft is indeed beautifully cut, and catches the light in your lair beautifully. The pinpoint lights of luminescent plants dancing in its facets.
"Hmm, I think I know just the perfect spot for such a treasure." Your gaze sweeps over piles of coins of precious metals, each coin loving placed into a diorama artfully arranged to spill from a chest, or lean against a feature of the cave, or to surround and highlight some of the larger items, whether furniture, armour, statuary or even more esoteric pieces. Each treasured possession placed so as to build on the whole without hiding an element. To this ever growing assembly you add the gem, up high so that some of the refracted light can be seen dancing across the floor, but not so high as to be out of your line of sight.
The next of your true hoard approaches, this one more slowly, their muzzle lowered, their expression shy as they hold out a plant, still small, but even at such an early stage of growth you can feel the magic in it. "Oh my sweet, your horticulture is coming along so well! Look at how this is thriving, and the light it sheds from those blue veins is just delightful."
One after another offerings from your kobolds are gladly received. Each with praise for their efforts. Each displayed proudly in your surroundings. They are after all tokens of love from those for whom you care.
