Murky Mud Made Mammal Mutant | its all Creepy Pasta 2 me | just sloshing | "Video games". Are they real? Nobody knows
I was looking for references for this! The Zelda series has block pushing, but it feels very deliberate -- you have to center yourself on the block and push towards it for a second, and then you're locked into an animation for another second. Ittle Dew feels like that but sped up. I was trying for something even more responsive, to try to match the speed you can get with a turn-based, tile-based block pusher.
I want to try making it a little more deliberate than this, though -- maybe the block resists moving for a few frames so you can't accidentally tap it, and maybe during the resistance the player position gets quantized towards the tile grid, so you don't get the thing where you push two blocks at once?
