I mean, Tetsuya Nomura has worked on multiple Final Fantasies, homaging him seems entirely appropriate.
He was character/boss designer for some of the raids last expansion! And then they got rid of belts as a player-equippable item in the following expansion for supposedly unrelated reasons.
