I think we all know by now there’s no such thing as a “10x” developer, nor even a meaningful way to quantify the amount of work done in tech (where visible “work” might vary dramatically from one area to another) but I think it’s telling that I actually do send out close to 10 times the number of code reviews of my colleagues1, and yet I constantly worry that my work is not visible enough, that I am sidetracked by unimportant things, that I am burdening my coworkers by asking them to review my code, etc.

It’s because we work on different things. These days I tend to work on things that are easier to iterate on by adding one piece at a time, instead of spending months on design, resource procurement, etc, so I frequently have a running backlog of PRs I can just send out one at a time. I’m productive, but I’m not that productive. Also productivity is a lie.
