interesting things about this product I have inferred from this advertisement:

  • this is a flat pack arcade cabinet with cutouts for a television and console, and builtin joystick controllers with cables/adapters to plug into the console.
  • they say “Sega” but this probably refers to the Master System. the trademark is 1988 and the ad came out in May 1989, whereas the Genesis was only released in the US in August of that year. there aren’t enough buttons for the Genesis either.
  • the cutout in front is probably different depending on which box you tick on the order form. it looks like it’s aligned with the cartridge slot on the NES in such a way as to hide the controller ports. the Master System had different dimensions and layout.
  • it probably wasn’t that expensive for them to support both depending on how much stock they kept in inventory but I’m kind of surprised they did. how many people in their target market even had a Master System?
