Jet Set Radio Future is real interesting so far.
I think the most surprising thing about it is how the basic control of the game actually feels pretty similar to the original? like the main difference is that you have air control (which obviously is a pretty big deal), but you still have a lot of that momentum both on the ground and in the air. I think it's all just a tiny bit quicker though. Still, with the way people talked about it I expected it to feel completely different, rather than like a touched-up version.
I feel like the weakest point is the combat, at least against human enemies; slamming into guys to knock them over and then spraying them is extremely one-note, and being forced into small areas to do so feels at odds with what the game otherwise is good at. Fighting vehicles tends to be better because they give you more space and they usually have unique ways to beat them, but it's still kinda half-baked. I miss the chasing aspect from the first game...
The variety in objectives is nice, as are the Street Challenges. It's obviously a less arcade-style game than the first one, which is probably better for most folk even if I like the timed tension of the original. Putting that aside, though, it has some real interesting level design that really makes you think about how to navigate it and put some effort into executing it. I think this is a pretty darn fun game so far.
Also, the soundtrack is obviously amazing, but I gotta say that Aisle 10 is a particular favorite. I do feel like having one music mix for each chapter makes tracks repeat too much, and the game doesn't seem super equal on how much each track gets used. It's weird to already be repeating tracks when I know there's ones I haven't heard yet. But it's not like any of the songs are bad (not even Birthday Cake you cowards), so it's not a big problem.
