vampire survivors seems like an interesting game in that it isolates literally every aspect i can't stand about roguelites into one product while including zero of the elements that have ever gotten me to try any of those games despite those elements. there is only the randomness and the progression systems. there's no gameplay. it's wild. they just made a game where you actually don't do anything, except walk slowly away from enemy groups to ensure the nothing continues. it's almost impressive.

I actually enjoyed it for quite a while but VS specifically is tired for me now. What I appreciate about it now is that it's so bare bones it makes me feel like "Yeah, anyone can just take this, throw in an actual goal in here, and make something compelling with it." Much like one of those "Sample Games" that a Game Making program would provide you with so you can jumpstart into the interesting parts of developing your game.

But between Holocure and 20 Minutes Til Dawn sorta solidifying VS as almost a genre of its own, I don't think anyone's really doing the "actual goal" part... so that's yet to be seen.
