man I wish I could more easily get into the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games but like... generally I play action-RPGs for the combat and it feels like those games have so much non-combat downtime, especially since I always feel sorta pressured to do sub-stories and minigames or else I'm not getting the full experience (or might be disadvantaged in combat in some way)

wish I could figure out how to make them less overwhelming for me

You could maybe talk with folks to find a speedrun-ish gameplan that lets you do most of the action content with minimal downtime.

Only problem with that plan is the superboss always requires all substories to be finished, so even with that you might miss out on some combat stuff, but you can probably get alot without resting your fists too much. Not every side quest is needed to get good combat stuff. (Except in 0 where you either have a side hustle or get really good at fighting mr shakedown.)
