why is it so hard for Seattle developers to make small apartments that still have kitchens

I genuinely don't understand why would you be trying to rent an apartment that only has a minifridge and microwave. Where do you think I'm eating? There is nowhere in this city that has a decent meal for under $15 and I cannot afford to eat out every meal where am I going to cook for myself you asshats

This was a common thing to happen with ā€œaPodmentsā€ and other things that were basically agglomerations of ADUs, and which didn’t actually require a fully-functional kitchen. Usually they’d have access to one central shared kitchen that was actually usable (and which nobody would use).

(Not a defense of this, just an explanation of its origin.)

I wonder how many of them started out as multi-bedroom apartments which then got split into multiple one-bedroom ones, then.

FWIW you can get pretty far with a small induction cooktop or two and an Ikea kitchen island or the like, although that's obviously not ideal.
