i just realized i was the first to make a post (a share to be specific) with the tag #LUCARIO, but now whenever anyone makes a post tagged as #lucario it's forced to be all uppercase
and that's my fault now ^^; you're welcome..????
all tags having a Canonical capitalization is genuinely my favorite stupid implementation detail of this website. i was a genius for designing it that way. no notes. don’t speak to me ever again
Honestly I am sure the technical tradeoffs that were made that lead to every tag having to be normalized up front on posts [and in the direct tag URL] rather than just having each post have its own capitalization and all still count as the same tag would be fascinating to read about.
In postgresql there is an added datatype "citext", which compares all text in that field as if both were lowercase, while allowing a canonical representation.
We'll just have to have to read it in the voice of the Smash Bros. announcer every time now
it's always felt like a weird bug to me (which i did report back then), but over the past 2 months i've gotten used to it, so either way is fine at this point
Now that Jae has publicly acknowledged this "feature" and indicated it as not a bug, I feel I can finally confess something. Shortly after Cohost's public launch I discovered this behavior, (reported it,) and immediately permanently poisoned the "#SpOnGeBoB" and "#SpOnGeBoB sQuArEpAnTs" tags so they will be stuck like that forever
that's what we call "god's work" round these here parts of eggbug's internet
