it is interesting how empowering cycling has been for us lately. walking long distances (more than a mile or so, but sometimes much less on a bad day) is very hard for us- it causes our joints to start yelling in pain at us. we had assumed we wouldnt be able to cycle any distance either. but it turns out cycling is much lighter on joints than walking. right now we can do 4 or 5 miles without resting, with some mild hills in there. or cycle up a steep hill that we'd have to take breaks walking up, and probably need to use a cane. we can visit a nearby friend without thinking about how hard the walk home will be. we are mostly limited by cardio and muscle strength right now, both things that are improving the more we do it, and things that are much MUCH easier to train when we are not limited by our joints, and the recovery energy those joints take up on top of the muscle building when we accidentally overwork them
