something interesting to me about that good video about orientalism in music is the usage of the word "orientalism". I'd long been under the impression that it referred specifically to the western mishmash of tropes that make up "far east asia" or w/e the heck and that's what I expected the video to be about. But this video is talking all about "desert music" kind of stuff, you know the kind. like, "pyramid golf course level" kinda music. which is like conceptually the same thing as "you're totally in asia now bro" music, but generalizing a different geographic area.
but yaeh shows what the fuck I know I guess, guess it's more general a term than i realized
