I still don't understand why people use Github's Copilot.

"Oh but it reduces boilerplate" - okay? How much boilerplate do you write? No, scratch that - how much boilerplate do you write that is complicated enough that cannot be solved:

  1. With a snippet engine
  2. By refactoring (at least gradually)
  3. By copy-pasting from docs?

At least if you copy-paste it from docs, you have a modicum of confidence that it'll work. With an AI, you still need to properly check it.

I just, don't see the benefits. Every example I see of Copilot fails to impress me. Not to mention ethical implications behind Microsoft feeding Github-hosted code to AI and the AI industry in general...
