finished beauty and the beast girl earlier today. wasn't prepared for the ending at all, but it was a tender read all in all. the parallels between heath's journey to see value in her existence with lily coming to accept her frailty and disability makes the moments they share that much sweeter. every vignette brings you to consider how they soothe each other's insecurities and provide one another the compassion to live a better life.
it's a simple premise but a heartening one. under other circumstances i might criticize its world as too saccharine to feel real; but i think that's also the thing in the way of lily and heath healing from their respective wounds. lily and heath learn to see past the ways others see them and provide the love they wouldn't ever get from normal society. finding love for themselves shows they don't need to feel lesser for who they are; and the same is true for the others in their community. i think that's beautiful in its own way.
