*Not Actually Every Type.
Something I spent WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on lol. This is entirely just riffing off of the many 'kinds' or 'tropes' in mecha design I found. Feel free to suggest more of them.
Might make a document providing examples for each one, but idk. I think most of these are pretty self-explanatory
Tell me your favourites below
Update: Here's the sequel to this chart, cataloguing Kaiju instead!

in reply to @NeoBioHazard's post:

As a kid raised on power rangers I have ALWAYS loved a well-designed How Do You Even Move? The last decade or so of sentai mechs dont really do it for me, but stuff like GaoGaiGar and some of the bulkier mobile suits in Gundam still make my brain go Brrrrrrr 🥰

Hard to narrow it down by much, but I usually tend to prefer clunkier and chunkier mecha, like ones with a lot of armor, though not exclusively. Chicken-style legs are also fun. Bonus points if the "face" (if it has something that could be even vaguely considered as such) is notably more to the robotic side of the scale, like singular eyes or visor/screen with or without eye dots or maybe just a cockpit as usual.

see, i'm horrible so while i'm not so acquainted with mechs and their design i now need to know Every Mech Ever Drawn Ever so I can make sure I know every existing design permutation
(and yknow if you have the time and energy and inclination i'd love to see a document with examples for each! no pressure)

...as a robotgirl i'm kind of obligated to find I Know What You Are most gender, but my favorite besides those are definitely the more tank-like ones- normal vehicle, chicken tank, sled dude, and world's largest RV tend to be among my favorites. that's followed by everything designed to fly, especially prioritizing wings, jet-like designs, and stuff that people like to call biblically accurate angels.

...and finally dammit i just love the distributed legbase of the honse-style designs. oh also rocketpods and big guns are my favorites. wow this is a long comment

A rare variation I've seen on "Honse" is a straight-up centaur mech with four legs and human-style armed torso section. Occasionally you get "city walking around on lots and lots of little spider legs" which I think is distinct from "World's Largest RV".

This is completely me being pedantic, but chickens don't have backwards knees; they have a regular knee and thigh that's normally covered in fluff, and then a prominent scaly ankle joint. As apology for pedantry, please accept this image of a tiny chicken's knee: a baby chick sitting comfortably

No yeah I totally understand. Would feel tempted to share this fact had I not been the one to make the chart lol.
Just thought "Chicken Tank" made for a more evocative and funny name than other choices. (Walking tank and Walking gun)
