DISCLAIMER: this post is nothing except a reminder to myself. I'm not a doctor in any way lol, I'm just listing things that help me with wrist pain.

So, I don't have any conditions, but I find myself easier to get sore hands even from slight overworking lately, and it prevents me from drawing for a week or two at worst. Again, not that much, but still is annoying, and some measures should be done.

So the first thing I should do is to do more exercises for alleviating pain, mainly these two that help me the most:

The second thing I should do is to consider using a Joystick / Gamepad with On-Screen Keyboard if it gets really bad, and I can't use a mouse. Not everyone benefits from that, but for me, using a Gamepad was always easier to my hands, if that's also your case, I'd recommend using AntimicroX that is available on Linux and Windows.

AntimicroX supports even those shitty cheap gamepads, so give it a try!

The third and still an important thing to remember is DO NOT DRAW IF IT'S STILL SORE. Even if it's very mild, if you give up on your patience you're practically going to reset your await because the hands will get worse. Please just wait it out, do other things that don't require hands to use, as an artist who has hands itching from not drawing I know it's very hard but your physical health should be the priority. Inform your commissioners that you're not able to do work for a certain amount of time, they will understand.

Hope this really short post helps!

If you do any kind of 3D indie game dev stuff and the enshittification of blendswap.com and turbosquid has left as huge a hole in your heart as it did mine, The Base Mesh has rescued me many times from having to model bespoke props from scratch.

It just has a really big collection of 3D objects that are solid enough to be used out of the box (UV and rigging required tho) but also generic enough to be edited to fit most artstyles, with a CC0 license so you can do whatever you want with em. It's all free, solely ran off of donations via the website owner's kofi page.

I post this here because I haven't seen anybody talk about it ever since I learned about it, and that's honestly a damn shame.

I have grown dissatisfied with some of the software and services I use on a daily basis. Even when attempting to use VPS services to host the things I want to use, I have often found that the VPS's that are offered do not match my needs. This is because I often need a server that doesn't have a lot of computational power because I'm more or less the only user but does have lots of storage because I have a lot of data I want to save.

Aside from the price and logistics, there are also privacy concerns I have. So, I have been looking into self-hosted alternatives and found myself with some potential solutions for the things that I use. Recently, I remembered that I could self-host my own server without exposing it to the public internet by using a VPN. This made me really excited, to the point that I even did a stream where I built an insane NAS configuration and I've been talking about or researching self-hosting more or less all day the last few days.

At the suggestion of a user on my Discord server, I will document all of the prospective tools I have chosen and why I have chosen them below.
