my experience with seattle trans pride is possibly encapsulated by the white googler who, while her employer was sponsoring trans pride, posted a picture of herself holding a brick in her home-owning, perfectly-manicured hands, in her pretty little decorative garden, next to the hot tub, in the house that i'm not allowed in, where she hosts parties comprised of people who all have problems with us for reasons, that they generally flatly refuse to discuss, all "pride was a riot"

okay look, we count as "rich people", we "own" a house here, but we also productively generate human connection and use our resources to meaningfully assist people. we keep money in our pocket and leave $20s at bus stops, go around downtown handing them out, because we are able to do so, and therefore our politics mandates that we do. but these so-called leftists are all up their own ass about abstract goodness and operate solely by clout and vibes, and won't even talk about it.

not right now, because we have spent ourselves a little thin over the past couple months especially (manic episodes abound in our circles and when they hit us, we start spending excessively) and we need time to build up a safe operating buffer again.

as far as the magic itself, we'd done a spell to get a room at MFF maybe the year before? and it kinda got out of hand. we got a hotel off in the outskirts and had a kinda frustrating con because of it, but then after that, all the less-privileged people around us started getting better housing in more core positions, which we found to be an acceptable tradeoff (as you mentioned, we have a long memory — our spells go long too)

another thing is that we kept telling people is that we were going to accidentally buy a house. guitar gf told us "alex, one does not accidentally sign a mortgage" and we told her "watch me", and then stumbled backwards, along with our partner, into doing exactly that.

as we're house-shopping, various things about this one pique our interest, such as the very good electrical wiring, the heat pump, and a particular connector that we've never seen before but can tell by looking at it is part of a radio antenna.

the bit that really clinched it, though, was one of the financial guys coming up with a figure that was a fraction close to to 666, and he said "we can round that up to 667 or down to 665". we interrupt, all "no no no, go ahead and hail satan here, we're fine with that". our partner was like "alex don't be offensive" and we were like "he brought it up!"

the people at the bank were all also asking that question about what kind of magic in various guises: "wait, this is your first offer on this house? and it was accepted? and this is the first house that you seriously put an offer on? all my years and i've never seen that."

non-magical types would insist that this is just random coincidence and there's no way we could have done a spell that had the effect of, against the flow of time, arranging a future wherein us getting this particular house would be a guaranteed event. and then we point out that this house has the previous 1970s generation of intercom system that our grandma's house had a 1980s version of as a kid.

yeah thats magic alright
i live in an apartment in everett and ive just sort of had to accept that ill be renting forever and wont have permanent housing that i can control.
whats funny is we are in a regular relatively dense for everett neighborhood close to a lot of shopping centers, but we have no internet. we've been piggybacking off of a public xfinity wifi signal whise range extends to our house since 2019.
this means that our internet will randomly go out and we have no recourse since we dont control the access point and just have to wait and see if it will change.
this is among other problems with this place and we'd love to move out but we're kind of stuck here since theres no place in driving distance to work that has a two bedroom for this cheap and we can't afford any more.
i hear in fiction all magic has a cost. maybe you getting a suspiciously perfect and cool house came about because we got this shitty apartment lmao. if thats the case then your welcome.
