oh absolutely, the thing that sent LJ into a death spiral was accepting advertising money, which immediately shits the incentives right up
but also like the comments page here is a perfect encapsulation of what we mean: page owners on LJ have always, to our knowledge, been able to delete other people's comments on their own posts. They ended up adding "hide" and "freeze thread" options too, in like 2006.
