thinking about how earlier this year, and late last year, i spent quite a few cumulative hours trying to Revamp and Modernize my film workflow with Lightroom and Negative Lab Pro, and now i'm back to doing it manually by adjusting a folder full of TIFFs with photoshop curves layers because it's faster and easier

open tiff. save as psd. create a curves layer. drag white and black point up and down to invert the slope. you now have a blue positive. create a curves layer. alt-click "auto." preview your options: "enhance per channel contrast" or "find dark & light colors," with "snap neutral midtones" on or off. choose the best one. for further adjustment, move your RGB endpoints in that or another curves layer, or create a color balance layer, or convert to Lab space and work there (ideally using smart objects for non-destructive editing), or whatever you please.
