choomf was just posting the other day about their allowlisted Akkoma instance but I do not think allowlist federation is a good idea
I already have a mastodon account (technically I think I have three plus an alt) and I don't really want to have to make another one on another instance just to be allowed to follow people who I know and who know me
this is fully understandable. i wish there was like. per-user federation whitelisting so you could ask to be let in
basically my main reason for the idea is so that people could post largely as they do on cohost, without pissing off anyone outside the servers or getting embroiled in Fediverse Drama
mastodon actually does, but on a per-server basis and it's not the default
