Today, the Doe Donuts Worker's Union announced its formation and affiliation with Doughnut Workers United in a statement on Twitter. This will be the second store (and second distinct business) to be represented by Doughnut Workers United if successful. They successfully and independently organized a Voodoo Doughnut store in October 2022—an IWW-led attempt in 2021 failed 9-9.

The union's statement is as follows.

We are forming a union because we believe:

  • all employees should be able to participate in decisions that affect them;
  • all employees should have a safe work environment, free of broken and hazardous equipment;
  • all employees should have consistent work without unexpected schedule changes or hour reductions;
  • all employees should have a work place with complete financial transparency;
  • all employees should have job security through medical and family emergencies.

On Monday at 11am we delivered our union petition to the owners of Doe Donuts and have given them 48 hours to voluntarily recognize our union and move into good faith bargaining with us. We have also filed with the NLRB.

We have requested the owners do not retain a lawyer for the purpose of union busting, and have expressed that every dollar spent on union busting should instead be going to equitable living wages for their employees and repairs and replacements of broken equipment.

We look forward to [...] building a strong working relationship with the owners as we make changes that prioritize the well-being and safety of all employees.

This is a first for me, stark contrast to Voodoo Doughnut who bitterly fought employees and released an antagonistic anti worker response after the union won an election, Doe Donuts has Voluntarily recognized [Doughnut Workers United]!! Workers are to say the least, very happy w this cooperation
