okay, a good solution for ebook sharing/display is somewhere between kavita and calibre/web but notably all of these suck for incredibly different reasons and it is Very, very unfortunate

i do not know how you make something that is so dependent on metadata files and yet also directory structure but i'll be damned if kavita didn't pull it off

i just

if there is any, any circumstance where "multiple series" "overlapping volume / issue number" would make sense

in my opinion it would be ereading

i am losing my mind that ... nothing seems to support this???? like

subseries are... incredibly common in books??
omnibus releases are incredibly common

and yet

i cannot find anything for this. "you get one series tag, that's it" "there is no way to have two different numbers for this, or a number range"

please i do not want to have a new life's purpose to improve this state of things and, crucially, it seems like none of the existing projects are In Favor of being extended in this way, and i don't understand

in reply to @aune's post:

i mean, navigating a file system without folder-based hierarchies is an exercise in madness, but basically nothing ever has just a single axis of information, so i kinda get wanting both, but i always like tools like media monkey that derive that folder structure from the metadata and organize it for you.

i know this makes me sound crazy, but i miss winxp's wmp/explorer integration.
it let you define multiple hierarchical taxonomies, and treated any front-anchored substring as a match with that name. e.g. a track tagged Rock/Alt Rock/Shoegaze also shows up under Rock/Alt Rock, and it also supported tracks having multiple tags of the same type.
