Given how Twitter is starting to give material support to fascists, staying on Twitter is no longer just an issue of personal safety or job safety as a freelancer, but an ethical one too.
Your continued use of the site at this point will stand to materially benefit global fascism in a way that has not been previously seen on a major social network (perhaps outside of Facebook).
I'm not going to tell you that you should stop using it per se, but I think you really have to think about this.
The thought shouldn't really be more than "Do I really want to be on the fash social network?" and if the answer is yes, keep asking yourself if you do. No, it doesn't mean going to Bluesky which also has a fash problem nor does it mean Threads either given it's owned by the largest disinformation apparatus going.
You will need to rebuild your connections, it will take time but it's that or sitting in the toxic swamp as the tide rises and overtakes you. Be aware of your surroundings, just because you don't have the Nazi flags up doesn't mean you should keep going to the pub which does.
Twitter doesn't just have a 'problem', it's literally giving money to these people now. This is where I think an important threshold has been crossed, and where using alternatives isn't just a matter of your own future stability, but also reducing Twitter's ability to give money to these people.
