if you need lab-grown meat to stop committing harm at a mass scale ("meals just don't feel satisfying without it"), then i don't think your ethical concerns were that strong in the first place

if your response to the industrialized omnipresent horrifying abuses of life on an incomprehensible scale that is factory farming is "i know it's bad, but i'll only stop contributing to it when it takes no effort on my part," then i don't know what to tell you

you can try and rationalize your direct contributions to the baby-grinding machine as much as you want, but at the end of the day it's just you making excuses because if you stop excusing yourself you'll have to admit that you've been doing evil

harm reduction is so fucking easy. "i'll just stop eating meat on mondays" already reduces your contribution to the baby grinding machine by 1/7, and is already a foot in the door to improve

you just have to put in the effort to both admit your wrongs and change them.

Everything you've said is right and true.

At the same time, in my experience most people really couldn't give two shits if the blood isn't directly on their hands, and even less so if they can just live their lives without ever really thinking about it.

So if we can build a system where curtailing those abuses takes increasingly infinitesimal effort, and eventually people have to put in actual effort to perpetuate them, we're still performing a tremendous reduction in harm.

And IDK, you prolly encounter this too, but the amount of times I've had to tell people "No, don't cook meat for me" or "Seriously, I can -not- eat here, there's like 2 vegeterian rolls total" or actively look for easy meals that I can actually have... that takes spoons not everyone has (regardless that I shouldn't -have- to spend them just to hold to my own ethics).

The only meat I eat is bacon and pepperoni, and probably no more often than the typical American eats those specific kinds of meat. But that's an ARFID thing, not an ethical thing. Actually, with ARFID I don't think I have much room to maneuver my diet for the sake of ethics.
